Sounds I’ve Heard From My Window

I’ve been sitting by my window every day for the past three months.  It’s quiet at times, noisy at others.  When it’s quiet, the only sound is the clicking of my computer.  And when it’s noisy, it’s like a symphony’s out there playing a private performance just for me.

The sound of a plane as it flies overhead.  The family next door singing ‘happy birthday’.  The humming of a lawnmower.  An indecipherable conversation from the neighbour’s yard.

I type away and more sounds gradually grace my ears.  The pitter-patter of the squirrels on the roof.  Perhaps, the sound of rain.  The roar of a siren.  The cawing of crows.  The obvious sign of summer with the fading song of the ice cream truck.

Then there’s the unmistakable sound of a basketball hitting the pavement.  The whooping of happy children.  The growling of a car engine starting.  Even the passing of a train.

It’s a pleasant realization to know that’s life’s passing by.  And even if I’m not directly part of it, it’s nice to know that it’s happening all the same.
